NVATU Trout Guide
The third edition of NVATU’s popular guide to trout fishing day trips from Northern Virginia provides updated information on directions, regulations, and stream access but also expands stream descriptions to provide anglers with a deeper understanding of what they will experience on the more than thirty streams in this guide. Specifically, descriptions now include information on which streams support hatches, which flies should be productive, the significance of the prevailing streambed or gradient conditions, and which species of trout hold where.
There is current information on the impact of recent weather events, such as hurricanes and floods, and the status at publishing of restoration work on several streams resulting in temporary closures. There are helpful suggestions regarding which streams are difficult to access or which streams are considered challenging to master.
The third edition is focused on helping the angler make more informed decisions and be better prepared before arriving at the stream. This guide is not only invaluable to the angler who is unfamiliar with the trout fishing opportunities in our area but it is also very helpful to experienced anglers wishing to expand their list of favorite streams. Please enjoy this guide and remember to practice conservation for the sake of future generations.
